Mahou San Miguel is the leading brewing company in Spain. By remotely measuring the emissions, Mahou wanted to know how much its fleet of trucks was actually polluting.
First, Mahou wanted to understand how disadjusted its trucks really were. The information obtained and the execution of the project itself brought additional benefits to the largest brewing company in Spain.
The measurements were done in differents sites inside and around one of the main factories of the company.
The trucks passed by the equipment deployed on the road, which collected emissions data as the trucks were driven in normal, everyday use, without the need for the vehicle to stop or even slow down.
The RSD technology can precisely measure remotely the pollutants emitted in tailpipe exhaust. Afer an analysis, Opus RSE found around 400 trucks of the client's fleet that were emitting far above normal.
Emissions from a motor vehicle are closely related to fuel consumption and, ultimately, to its good or poor performance. Opus RSE calculated the savings for Mahou if these trucks were repaired.
MAHOU SAVED ALMOST HALF MILLION EUROS WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR AFTER REPARING 400 TRUCKS.
The company found a method to identify inefficient vehicles, in less than a second and without interrupting normal daily operations. RSD does not affect the trucks in any form, so continuous monitoring of emissions is a perfect way to control the good performance of the fleet.
Moreover, this project has increased the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Mahou by reducing its on-road traffic emissions. The results obtained helped the company winning the "European Business Award for the Environment" in Spain.
